Writing Content the Right Way

To do it fast or to ensure quality?

Writers are often caught in this dilemma.

There are times when thoughts just wouldn’t flow. When no matter how hard you push, your output still does not satisfy you. And the pressure heightens even more when you’re after deadlines.

I spend more time in the editing process when I write my papers. Do you do the same, too?

There’s just no way to ensure quality but to review the content over again, and revise as necessary. It’s true that writing the final draft is only half the task done.

Writing fast and writing quality can, however, happen at the same time with practice. It also helps to know some tips to writing the write way.

Rock your headline. This is your chance, and might be the only one, to invite readers on your page. Before people see your work, they see only this element as they browse through the search results. And most of the time, it is this thing that makes them want to click on your site. If your headline does have an impact, then your target audience, most likely, would like to hear what you have to say.

Connect with your readers. Have you experienced reading an article or a post and along the way finding yourself nodding in approval to what the author says? If you just answered well, then the writer did a great job. They were able to connect with you. Make your audience feel they are part of the conversation. Talk to them. Make them feel that your content is about them. Get rid of “I.” Use “you.”

Think of your friends. Imagine you are sharing a conversation with friends. You feel comfortable, right? You can care less what you talk about and how you say it because you are confident that these people you are speaking with shall bear with you. During those moments when you feel you can no longer go on with your work, think of your friends. Forget formality and write as how you speak. Not only will it help you write faster, it will also aid you share who you really are with your audience.

Invest in verbs. Hate adjectives. They wouldn’t help you as much as verbs do. Descriptive words only take up too much space. But they do not aid your thoughts progress. They also do not help your readers visualise. With verbs, the picture becomes clear. You aid paint the same image you see. You ensure that you are on the same page as your audience.

Share stories. Be the life of the party. Do away from the usual runaround. Instead of merely listing down tips or creating lists, tell a story. Engage your readers by taking them to a journey to your personal experiences. Make people feel they’re talking to a human. You’re already talking from experience with the tips you’re sharing. You can make a good storyteller.

Get readers moving. You’ve said your piece. You have shared what you know to your audience. You have told a story. Now, how are you supposed to end the conversation? Should you bid farewell to your readers? No. Don’t.Call for action. After reading your work, you also want people to do something, either to share your post, subscribe to your page or buy your products. End with this goal in mind. You’re still a marketer, remember.
